ACM, CMA and CMT Award-winning artist Luke Combs will release his new deluxe album, What You See Ain’t Always What You Get, October 23 on River House Artists/Columbia Nashville. The extended edition will feature all 18 songs from Combs’ platinum-certified, global #1 record, What You See Is What You Get, as well as five new tracks.

The release continues a series of groundbreaking years for Combs, who has once again made history as the first artist ever to have their first two studio albums spend 25 weeks or more at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart—breaking Taylor Swift’s previously held record at 24 weeks. The achievement comes as What You See Is What You Get topped the chart for the 25th time last month, while his 2017 debut, This One’s For You, has spent 50 non-consecutive weeks at #1—tying the record for the longest reign atop the chart with Shania Twain’s Come On Over in 1997.

What You See Is What You Get debuted at #1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart as well as Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart this past November with 172,000 equivalent units sold and also enjoyed the largest streaming week ever for a country album with 74 million on-demand streams.

Continuing his record-breaking streak at country radio, Combs’ current US single and his next UK single (September 2020), “Lovin’ On You,” is already top 10 in the US and rising, while his first eight singles have all reached #1—a first on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. Moreover, Combs is nominated in three categories at the 55th ACM Awards: Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for What You See Is What You Get.

Listen to ‘Lovin’ On You’ HERE

Produced by Scott Moffatt, What You See Is What You Get features 18 songs including the five tracks previously released via The Prequel EP last summer. The EP debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart with all five tracks charting on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Top 25—a feat not accomplished by any artist in 60 years since Johnny Cash in 1959. Adding to his landmark year, Combs’ debut album, This One’s For You, was recently certified RIAA Triple Platinum and certified Silver in the UK. The album was also the most-streamed country album of 2019.

Additional notable achievements and recognitions:

  • Awarded Male Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year (“Beautiful Crazy”) at the
    53rd Annual CMA Awards
  • Awarded CMT Performance of the Year at the 2019 CMT Music Awards for his CMT
Crossroads performance of “Beautiful Crazy” with Leon Bridges
  • Awarded Top Country Artist, Top Country Male Artist and Top Country Album at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards

New Album ‘Hey Clockface’ Out October 30th

‘We Are All Cowards Now’ Out Now

August 14th sees the release of Elvis Costello’s “We Are All Cowards Now,” the third advance bulletin from what is now revealed to be a new album, ‘Hey Clockface,’ scheduled for release on October 30th by Concord Records.

‘Hey Clockface’ was recorded in Helsinki, Paris and New York and mixed by Sebastian Krys in Los Angeles.

Following the solo recording of “No Flag,” “Hetty O’Hara Confidential” and “We Are All Cowards Now” at Suomenlinnan Studio, Helsinki by Eetü Seppälä in February 2020, Costello immediately traveled to Paris for a weekend session at Les Studios Saint Germain.

Watch the video for ‘We Are All Cowards Now’ HERE

Costello tells us, “I sang live on the studio floor, directing from the vocal booth. We cut nine songs in two days. We spoke very little. Almost everything the musicians played was a spontaneous response to the song I was singing. I’d had a dream of recording in Paris like this, one day.”

The ensemble, dubbed “Le Quintette Saint Germain” by Costello, was recruited for these dates by Steve Nieve (who plays grand piano, upright piano, organ, mellotron & melodica) and features Mickaél Gasche on trumpet, flugel horn and serpent, Pierre-François ‘Titi’ Dufour on cello and the drums, percussion and high harmonies of Ajuq.

Reed player Renaud-Gabriel Pion brought many tones and colours to the performances, playing, contrabass clarinet, bass clarinet, Bb clarinet, tenor saxophone, bass flute and cor anglais.

The Paris sessions were recorded by François Delabrière.

The New York sessions were produced by composer, arranger and trumpet player Michael Leonhart in collaboration with guitarists Bill Frisell and Nels Cline and completed, lyrically and vocally by Costello, “via Electrical Wire.”

“I wanted to write ‘Helsinki-Paris-???’ on the record jacket like this was a perfume or an advertising agency. ‘London’ was a possibility for the third city but London is forever. We’ll be there again. Michael sent this music to me from New York at the perfect time. It connected to elements in both of the previous sessions and completed the picture.”

Speaking of the emotional and dynamic range of the record, Costello said, “I wanted the record to be vivid, whether the songs demanded playing that was loud and jagged or intimate and beautiful.”

The assembled album, ‘Hey Clockface‘ is “An Elvis Costello & Sebastian Krys Production” following on from their work together on Elvis Costello and The Imposters Grammy-winning album ‘Look Now.’

The motion picture of “We Are All Cowards Now” by Eamon Singer & Arlo McFurlow features images of flowers & pistols, smoke & mirrors, tombstones & monuments, courage & cowardice, peace love and misunderstanding.

The designs & photography of Simon Halfon

A 40 year dive into the work of revered graphic designer

A career spanning archive

The Jam, The Style Council, Paul Weller, Oasis, George Michael, The Who, Madness, Steve Winwood, David Bowie, Frank Sinatra & more

Out November 16th via Nemperor
Available to pre-order at
nemperor.com

Award-winning graphic designer Simon Halfon, today announces the release of his debut book ‘Cover To Cover’ – to be published by Nemperor on November 16th.

Initially launched as a Kickstarter campaign, and meeting its target in less than six hours, this book includes 40 years of his record sleeves, design work and rarely – if ever – seen photography.

Simon Halfon is an award-winning graphic designer with a career spanning four decades in the music industry. He is most noted for his long standing collaborations with George Michael, Oasis and Paul Weller (with whom he worked for the best part of 30 years) designing some of their most iconic albums, from ‘Listen Without Prejudice’ to ‘Standing on the Shoulder of Giants’to ‘Stanley Road’, his first of three collaborations with Peter Blake.

Along with his designs, this beautifully presented hard back book also gives us the opportunity to see Simon’s rarely if ever seen photos of these iconic artists.

Alongside The Jam, The Style CouncilPaul WellerOasis, George Michael, his design portfolio includes The Who, Madness, Steve Winwood, Nick Heyward, David Bowie, Frank Sinatra, John Lennon, James Brown, the Blue Note label and many more.

‘Cover To Cover’ also showcases Halfon’s production work for the feature films Sleuth, starring Michael Caine & Jude Law, as well as the Oasis feature length documentary Supersonic.

On the creation of the book, Halfon explains; “During lockdown I took the opportunity to reorganise my archives and began to look through boxes, many of which hadn’t been opened in over three decades. Sorting through thousands of personal photographs, negatives, artist’s proofs, sketches and notes, brought an overwhelming sense of nostalgia and a new-found pride for my body of work. Having never taken the time to look back, I hadn’t truly appreciated the journey. It now feels like the perfect time to create a retrospective book to celebrate the privilege of a career working with some of music’s most iconic artists. It will also give me the opportunity to share anecdotes & recollections – to tell the stories behind the artwork.”

His journey began in the post room at Stiff Records back in 1980, where with no formal training he ended up in their art department, before moving on to work for Neville Brody up at The Face magazine offices. Since that time Halfon has worked alongside many of the great artists and photographers, from Peter Blake to David Bailey.

Most recently Halfon created and produced the punchy comedy/drama series ‘All You Need Is Me’ for Canal Plus. Based on many of his own experiences living in Los Angeles, the series was shot entirely on location in LA and London. He garnered cameos from Fallout Boy’s Pete Wentz, the LibertinesCarl Barat, Elvis Costello and James Corden.

As The Rolling Stones’ legendary manager and producer Andrew Loog Oldham saysof Halfon’s work – “the job of artwork on an LP cover is to explain the music, the artist and invite you in. Halfon does just that.”

Announce ‘Southside Demos’ EP & ‘Southside Covers’ EP

 ‘I Don’t Want A Lover

Mixed by Chic’s Bernard Edwards Out Now

For over 30 years, Texas have proved themselves to be one of Scotland’s best ever bands and nothing short of a national treasure south of the border. The band has announced they will be releasing two digital-only EPs from their world-renowned and critically acclaimed album ‘Southside’. ‘Southside Demos’ and ‘Southside Covers’ will be released on 11th September 2020 through UMC/Mercury.

Originally part of an incomplete album recording, the first track to be taken from the EP is the glorious Bernard Edwards mix of ‘I Don’t Want A Lover’. Following an incredible, but unfinished, album session with Bernard, Sharleen Spiteri said, “We’ve searched for these recordings for a long time and they were recently found in the Universal vaults in America, they have not been listened to since 1987.” She continued, “What you are listening to was one of the biggest lessons we learned on many fronts right at the beginning of our career.”

Listen to Bernard Edwards’ mix of ‘I Don’t Want A Lover’ HERE

Compiled and curated by the band, ‘Southside Demos’ is a seven track digital-only EP featuring six previously unreleased demos recorded in Glasgow between February and December 1987. The EP also includes a previously unreleased mix of, ‘I Don’t Want A Lover’ by Bernard Edwards of Chic, which also features Tony Thompson of Chic on drums and was recorded at Burbank Studios in LA in summer 1987. The band will release a new track from ‘Southside Demos’ through to release on the 11th September.

The second of the two EPs, ‘Southside Covers’, was recorded at the band’s legendary gig at The Paradiso in Amsterdam in June 1989. The EP features previously unreleased live covers of John Lee Hooker’s, ‘Dimples’, and the Whitfield/Strong composition ,’Can’t Get Next To You’, which was covered by The Temptations and Al Green. Also included are live covers of ‘It Hurts Me Too’ by Elmore James and an epic cover of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Living For The City’.

Formed in 1986 by the undeniably brilliant Sharleen Spiteri and her partner in crime, Johnny McElhone, Texas have made consistently great music throughout their stellar career; they’ve sold over 40 million records, had 13 top ten UK singles, 3 #1 UK albums and 8 top ten UK albums including their latest, ‘Jump On Board’.

Open The Door To A Brand New Chapter
Forthcoming Album ‘Invitation’– out Oct 2nd

New Single ‘Sweet Time’

16-Date UK Intimate Tour April 2021

Includes Two Nights at London’s Union Chapel 26th and 27th April

Ward Thomas are back with the first taste of brilliant new music from their infectious forthcoming studio album ‘Invitation’– out October 2nd on WTW Music through eastwest.

‘Sweet Time’ arrives today and lays down an impressive marker. A graduation in sound and a newfound maturity makes for a profound step up. The track opens the album in style, injecting an exciting pace from the get go, with Haim-like guitar work and bursting with youthful energy.

 Listen to ‘Sweet Time’ HERE

Largely produced by Jonathan Quarmby (Lewis Capaldi, Tom Walker, Finley Quaye), and mostly recorded in lockdown from their Hampshire cottage, ’Invitation’ is a coaxing doorway for all into an exciting new chapter as the fog of a global pandemic begins to lift. There’s palpable energy by the bucket load, and many of its songs benefit from a coming of age for sisters Catherine and Lizzy and a new found voice sees them diversify their sound.

The girls say; “2020 has been a year full of learning, which we feel has changed our approach to this album. We recorded a lot of it from our cottage, and working remotely came with its share of challenges, but also new opportunities. Although recorded during uncertain times, the record feels like an invitation to a more positive time; to a more open and exciting new chapter. We named it after a lyric in the song ‘Open Your Mind’ because the album feels like an invitation – whether it be figuratively, an invitation to self-reflect, or physically, to a time when we can all party again.”

‘Meant To Be Me’ delivers a new twist on their country roots showcasing a wonderful pop sound mixed with clever use of mandolin, whilst ‘Dear Me’ briefly strips away the music, making for a stunning Imogen Heap-style near acapella performance. There’s also a strong James Bond-esque candidate in ‘My Favourite Poison’, and even their more traditional country-pop tracks have found a new level, with the brilliant ‘Wait Up’ and previously released ‘Hold Space’. Other highlights include the strikingly rhythmic ‘Don’t Be A Stranger’ and epic ‘Someday’.

As bonus tracks the album also includes a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s iconic track ‘Landslide’, their feature with James Blunt on the brilliant ‘Halfway’ from his 2019-released Top 3 album ‘Once Upon A Mind’, and a jaw dropping live performance of The Killers’ ‘Human’ with Jack Savoretti at his huge Wembley Arena headline show last year.

The girls will also embark on an intimate “Invitation” acoustic tour, which was rescheduled due to Covid-19, for April next year. The 16-date run will include two dates at London’s Union Chapel on the 26th& 27th.

2020 may have been a year of global ups and downs so far, but as one door closes, another opens. Enter an exciting new chapter for Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas.

RELEASE DEBUT SINGLE “DON’T WALK AWAY

CO-WRITTEN BY DAN AUERBACH AND PRODUCED BY SIMONE FELICE

One of the US’ hottest news acts, The Heavy Hours, have released their infectious debut single “Don’t Walk Away”. Co-written with Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach and produced by Simone Felice (The Lumineers, Jade Bird, Matt Maeson) the track, released through S-Curve/BMG, heralds the arrival of the Cincinnati quartet.

“Don’t Walk Away” provides an ideal glimpse into the band’s particular magic, fusing epic hooks, affecting lyricism, and indelible melody with studio invention and timeless pop smarts. The four friends at the core of the Heavy Hours have been collaborating in some sense since high school, united by a shared passion for a wide range of sounds, from alternative rock and contemplative folk, to radio-friendly rock ‘n’ roll.

Watch the video for ‘Don’t Walk Away’ HERE

Adopting the band’s name from a line in William Butler Yeats’ Autobiographies, The Heavy Hours emerged in 2018, eager to explore a long-standing fascination with time-honored songwriting and production. Their music soon made its way to Dan Auerbach, who invited his fellow Ohioans to visit his Easy Eye Sound headquarters in Nashville for a few days of collaborative songwriting. The sessions were both productive and a revelation, inspiring the band to strip away some of their previous artifice in order to touch a more universal chord. Armed with a cache of new songs and innumerable ideas, The Heavy Hours traveled to rural Catskills in New York state, to record under the aegis of producer Simone Felice. The winter sessions proved incredibly fruitful, yielding a collection of distinctive new music that serves as an undeniable milestone on The Heavy Hours’ ongoing creative journey.

Having found their voice, The Heavy Hours are now fully focused on the future, determined to develop and expand the parameters of their intrepid sound and vision. Indeed, the band’s musical capacity seemingly grows more adventurous with each passing day. Brimming with self-assurance, creative ambition, and infinite artistry, The Heavy Hours are set to take on the world.

The Heavy Hours:

Michael Marcagi – vocals * AJ Yorio – guitar

Jonathan Moon – bass * Ian Malott – drums

Shares New Single And Video ‘Into My Arms’

Taken From Forthcoming Debut Album ‘Misadventure’

Produced by Simone Felice and David Baron

Diana DeMuth shares her fourth single, “Into My Arms,” today, along with a video featuring Wesley Schultz from The Lumineers. Her debut album Misadventure is due out via Thirty Tigers later this year, and the single follows Diana’s previous tracks, “Hotel Song,” “Rose of Nantucket” and “Steady Rolling” — a cover of Two Gallants’ hit.

Produced by Simone Felice & David Baron, the soaring, new single comes complete with a cinematic music video that depicts a heist — sheep masks and all. DeMuth is joined by Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers, who she was set to tour with before this years’ concert cancellations. The video is directed by Nicholas Sutton Bell and produced by Neighborhood.

DeMuth delves deeper into the message and inspiration of the song, saying, “Into My Arms is about breaking away from what holds you back (small town talk, toxic relationships, dead-end jobs) and how liberating that feels. It’s the kind of song you stomp your foot and sing at the top of your lungs to. Whenever I sing it I’m always reminded of summers when I was young and driving around late at night with the windows down. There’s a joy to it that I love and it’s message speaks to the album as a whole. I hope people feel that joy and release when they listen.”

Watch the video for ‘Into My Arms’ HERE

Simone Felice, who was named one of Billboard‘s Top 10 rock producers right now, produced DeMuth’s forthcoming, debut album, Misadventure, due out in 2020, along with David Baron. Felice has also worked with The Lumineers, who DeMuth has announced tour dates with, as well as with Jade Bird, Vance Joy, Bat For Lashes, Noah Kahan, Phoebe Bridgers, Felice Brothers, Conor Oberst, and Matt Maeson.

With a few surprises coming, and stadiums that will soon be filled with DeMuth’s voice, melodies and story, 2020 will surely see her name stamped on new fan’s hearts. Stay tuned for more releases and announces for Diana DeMuth.
