Home to the Harrison family archive of Indian Classical and World music and George’s collaborations with the finest exponents of Indian Classical music First reissues available digitally today (April 27th), via streaming outlets for the first time

The George Harrison Estate is happy to announce their new label, HariSongs, created in partnership with Craft Recordings to release the Harrison family archive of Indian Classical and World music and George’s collaborations with the finest exponents of Indian Classical music.

To celebrate this body of music, HariSongs launches today with two reissues in honour of Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan’s shared birthday month (b. 7th April, 1920 and 14th April, 1922, respectively). These titles — both recently out-of-print, and never before available via streaming platforms — are the acclaimed Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan In Concert 1972 and the last collaboration by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, Chants of India. These digital-only reissues are now available for the first time via streaming outlets, as well as to download.

About In Concert 1972:

In Concert 1972 was originally released via Apple Records in 1973, with a statement that read: “Within the small community of brilliantly gifted musicians there exists an even smaller world of Masters. Two of these masters recently joined together in concert …” The album features two of Indian Classical music’s greatest artists at the height of their powers, the sitar maestro Ravi Shankar and master of the sarod, Ali Akbar Khan. The album captures the live recordings from a performance that took place at New York City’s  Philharmonic Hall on October 8, 1972 and was edited and mixed by George Harrison with Zakir Hussain and Phil McDonald. Featuring tabla accompaniment by the great Alla Rakha, this mesmerising concert comprises three ragas played in the jugalbandi style (or a duet played by two solo musicians) and became a poignant tribute to the guru of both soloists (and the father of Ali Akbar), the great Allauddin Khan, who had died but a month previously. Audio for this reissue was sourced from the original master 1/4” analogue tapes which were digitized at FPSHOT (Friar Park Studio Henley-on-Thames) and remastered by Paul Hicks, Gavin Lurssen & Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering (Hi-Res 96/24 and 192/24 audio also available).

Stream or download In Concert here: http://found.ee/HariSongs-InConcert-Digital-C

Critical praise received:

“This wonderful recording comes from a show at New on most Shankar albums of the period, to the natural extension and patient exploration of an Indian classical-music evening.”
– Rolling Stone

“This is the living, fire-breathing embodiment of one of the greatest partnerships ever forged in Hindustani (Northern Indian) classical music… Two musicians pouring their hearts out for their guru: that is the most succinct description of this sometimes smouldering, sometimes fiery, masterpiece.”
– Gramophone Magazine

About Chants of India:

Chants of India by Ravi Shankar and produced by George Harrison was originally released in 1997 on Angel Records. Recorded in Madras, India, and Henley-on-Thames, UK, this collaboration was referred to by Shankar as “one of the most difficult challenges in my life, as a composer and arranger,” and draws upon the sacred Sanskrit texts of the Vedas, Upanishads and other scriptures. He added, “the repetitive use of mantras invoke a special power within oneself and I have tried to imbibe this age-old tradition in this recording… into which I have poured my heart and soul.”

Stream or download Chants of India here: http://found.ee/HariSongs-Chants-Digital-W

Critical praise received:

“Perhaps the very best introduction to the enduring creative friendship between the Bengali classical master and the scruff from Liverpool’s back streets.”
– Mojo

“Chants of India represents a creative milestone in the life of a veteran artist whose contributions to traditional Indian music cannot be overestimated.”
– Billboard

“Shankar took Hindu prayers, mantras and scriptural texts and framed them within larger musical settings, incorporating both Indian and European instruments along with voices. The results are transporting – and very beautiful.”
– NPR Music

Lead Track “Bad Dreams” Out Today Apple Music Premieres “Bad Dreams” Video, Directed By Sophie Muller

Today, Virgin EMI release “Bad Dreams,” the first single to be taken from Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson’s new EP, Apart. Set for release on June 1, Apart marks their first collaboration since their 2009 album, Break Up. The EP features four brand new recordings and a new version of “Tomorrow,” a song that originally appeared on Yorn’s last album, 2016’s ArrangingTime.

The official video for “Bad Dreams” premiered exclusively on Apple Music today and can be viewed HERE. Conceived by legendary director Sophie Muller (Sade, Gwen Stefani, Annie Lennox), it takes Pete and Scarlett on a strange trip through the night where nothing is what it seems. Their relationship plays out through a series of surreal moments where roles are reversed, and suspicion is heightened. In the end, we don’t know if it was all a dream.

“It was great to collaborate with Scarlett again. We recorded ‘Bad Dreams’ over a couple of days in downtown L.A. at the Spring Street studio of our old friend R. Walt Vincent,” says Pete Yorn.

“If Breakup was dealing with an unravelling relationship, Apart is dealing with the aftermath,” he explains. “It acknowledges the array of heavy emotions that come up living separate lives. You’re getting used to the idea of not being with someone who has been a big part of your life. Even after a break up has occurred, the presence of an ex still seems to loom large in one’s mind for a while. There are moments during the day where you wonder, is it really over? Or will there be another chapter in the relationship now that it has evolved? The EP is an attempt to sort through all this and get comfortable with the excitement of new freedoms while facing underlying fears of the unknown road that lies ahead.”
P.T.O

Scarlett Johansson adds, “Being able to revisit this project with Pete in a totally different context but within the same creative parameters is a unique artistic opportunity for me. It is always a pleasure to sing with Pete because I think our voices and stories complement each other.”

Certified Platinum in France, Yorn & Johansson’s Break Up charted on the Alternative and Rock album tallies in the U.S. as well as the Billboard 200. Entertainment Weekly said, “Johansson’s throaty vocals fitBreak Up’s intimate vibe” and Alternative Press praised “the bittersweet bounce of [lead single] ‘Relator.’” Paste noted, “the eight songs Yorn has written for this album are among his best—the kind of thoughtful, catchy heartache pop at which he excels. Between Yorn’s ingratiating tunes, Johansson’s harmonies and the lush, inventive production, Break Up ultimately succeeds in its ambitious goal of capturing the spirit – if not the sound – of the late-’60s musical partnership between Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot.”

Track Listing – Apart

1. Iguana Bird
2. Bad Dreams
3. Movies
4. Cigarillo
5. Tomorrow (Remix ft. Scarlett Johansson)

HANNIE, the songwriting duo of multi-instrumentalists Hannah Koppenburg and Annie Wagstaff release their brand new single ‘Target’ today, featuring vocals from rising Canadian singer Ralph.

Listen to ‘Target (Feat. Ralph)’ HERE

‘Target’ is the second single from HANNIE and much like their debut single ‘Cosmic Bound’, it perfectly showcases the girls’ ear for a massive hook and a disco-infused pop groove. The track smashes though genre boundaries with stabbing synths and a face-melting guitar solo from Annie. Much like recent acts Disclosure and Clean Bandit, HANNIE write and co-produce their own tracks, handpicking different vocalists to collaborate with for each track.

“Target was one of the first songs we ever wrote together.” Say the girls; “Ralph was over from Toronto and so we were super happy to be able to write a song with her. It was awesome fun and the song came together so easily. Ralph works just like us – quickly, and we love that!

It’s all about being a free spirit, wanting to settle, but just not being able to. The song hints at a relationship but we wrote it thinking about more than just that. It’s about not being content with where you are and always wanting to move on to the next step. Not in a dissatisfied way, more in a wanting things to continually improve kind of way.  Ralph sings it amazingly and we couldn’t be happier with it.”

Forming HANNIE in 2017, Hannah and Annie initially met at ACM University in Guildford, the only girls swimming in a male dominated sea of aspiring guitarists and keyboard players. Hannah, originally from South Germany plays keys and Annie, born in Surrey, guitar and it didn’t take them long to connect musically – going on to play in various bands before eventually forming HANNIE last year.

Within a year HANNIE have gone from putting up online videos filmed in their living room, to having over 160,000 followers, keenly awaiting their next move.

Ahead of appearing as special guest of Tears For Fears on their 11 date UK arena tour this spring, electronic pop pioneer Alison Moyet releases ‘The Other Live Collection’ on Cooking Vinyl 20th April.

Over a 35-year recording career, three-times BRIT Award-winner and Grammy-nominee Alison Moyet has released 9 solo studio albums and a further 3 compilations. 2017 saw Alison return with a new album ‘Other’, an at turns expressively poetic and archly wry collection of electronic vignettes which received acclaim across the board from the likes of Q, Mojo, Classic Pop, The Sun and Record Collector.

In support of the record, Alison embarked on a triumphant world tour which saw her play 59 shows in 58 cities including the iconic Paradiso in Amsterdam, The Fillmore in San Francisco, the Enmore Theatre in Sydney and 2 nights at the London Palladium.

This live collection consists of tracks spanning the entirety of her career, and includes the first airing of a selection of live songs taken from her most-recent album ‘Other’, reworked favourites such as ‘Wishing You Were Here’, ‘Ski’, and ‘The Man In The Wings’, as well as the undeniable hits ‘Only You’ and ‘All Cried Out’.

Alison Moyet first came to prominence as one half of pioneering electronic duo Yazoo with their short-lived alchemic partnership producing two seminal hit albums, before disbanding at the height of their success. Following a furious bidding war, Alison signed to Columbia and her extraordinary solo career began which spawned many multi-platinum albums and sold out worldwide tours.

As well as completing acting runs in both Chicago – The Musical and Smaller (with Dawn French) (for which she co-wrote the soundtrack), she performed at Live Aid, released the live DVD recording of ‘One Blue Voice’, is a Nordoff Robbins Icon Award recipient and was named as Classic Pop Magazine’s Solo Artist of the Year for 2017.

Single Impacts 27th April Debut Album ‘Junk’ Out May 4th Plays London’s Rich Mix May 15th

Austin born, Paris based 27-year-old singer Hailey Tuck has revealed the video for her seductive new single ‘Alcohol’, a rework of The Kinks classic and the first track to be taken from her debut album on Sony ‘Junk’, produced by the legendary Larry Klein.

Watch the video for ‘Alcohol’ HERE

Hailey joyously rips up the rulebooks turning jazz on its head by putting her own spin on songs by artists as diverse as Leonard Cohen (They Don’t Make It Junk), Ray Davies (Alcohol) and Pulp (Underwear). Classics from Cabaret and Leonard Bernstein rub shoulders with brand new songs. All are totally and literally addictive.

“I wanted to work with the Mark Ronson of jazz”, Hailey says. “So I looked at who had produced modern jazz singers I love, Madeleine Peyroux and Melody Gardot, in particular. That was Larry. When we met we were on the same page straight away. It was magical.”

It was a marriage made in jazz heaven and recorded at LA’s infamous Sunset Sound Studios with a band of veteran jazz musicians. “Hailey Tuck is one of a kind,” says multi Grammy Award winning producer Larry Klein. “She’s the Breakfast At Tiffany’s Holly GoLightly of Jazz. A natural writer and a whip-smart observer of the world around her.”

Hailey left her native Austin, Texas at 18 and moved to Paris, honing her live sound at Le Buzz and the now defunct underground club Tres Honoree. This debut album follows widespread acclaim for a trio of EPs Hailey self-released between 2014 and 2016.

Other album highlights include Joni Mitchell’s ‘Cactus, Colin Blunstone’s pop classic ‘Say You Don’t Mind’, and Paul McCartney’s ‘Junk’. The sheer range and breadth of Hailey Tuck’s massive artistry is prevalent throughout this spectacular debut album.

‘Junk’ is the perfect introduction to this unique talent. And it’s only the beginning. Miss this at your peril.

Hailey plays a show at London Rich Mix on Tuesday May 15th. Tickets Available here.
