Debut Self-Titled EP Out Now

Rising British singer-songwriter LION (real name Beth Lowen) has today released her new single ‘Fiction’ via Fiction Records. The track is the second to be taken from her debut self-titled EP.

A live favourite, ‘Fiction’ is a high-energy riff heavy track combining jagged guitars, smashing drums and her incredibly raw unique voice. ‘I wrote Fiction about being lied to and how obvious it can be when someone is lying’ says Beth ‘It’s pretty crazy what people think they can get away with. This song is like my way of confronting that – whether it’s in politics or my own relationships’.

Her debut self-penned four track EP was recorded at London’s Snap Studios with producer Rich Cooper. Combining bluesy riffs with soaring choruses and led by LION’s unique rasping vocal prowess and deft guitar playing, the ‘LION’ EP is equal parts The White Stripes and Florence Welch.

2018 has seen LION play The Great Escape, Dot To Dot, Reeperbahn, Latitude and Boardmasters festivals, support the likes of Albert Hammond Jr, The Vaccines, Isaac Gracie and Girli, and sell out her own headline shows at The Lexington and Camden Assembly. Last single Oh No has been championed across the airwaves – receiving its first play from Steve Lamacq on his BBC 6 Music show, and was playlisted on BBC Radio 1. LION heads to Eurosonic Festival in Groningen in January 2019 as Steve Lamacq’s choice for BBC Introducing.

New Album Out March 22nd UK Tour Includes Wembley Arena May 31st

Jack Savoretti returns March 22nd with a stunning new album ‘Singing to Strangers’ on BMG Records. Produced by Cam Blackwood (George Ezra), the album follows Jack’s last two gold discs ‘Written in Scars’ (2014) and ‘Sleep No More’ (2016).

Recorded in Rome at Ennio Morricone’s studio this long, hot summer, the 12 track album features Jack’s acclaimed live band: guitarists Pedro Vito and Sam Lewis; bassist Sam Davies, drummer Jesper Lind and musical director Nikolai Torp on keys.

“Lucikly Morricone’s studio is in the basement of this huge church so it was cooler,” Jack says. “And the atmosphere down there was essential and that was captured on ‘Candlelight’, which became the calling card of the album and will be the first single.”

As for the title track Jack explains it’s origin: “That’s my job: I sing to strangers. That’s what I’ve spent most of my life doing. Singing to friends and family and fans; they’re already onside, so you can, to some extent sing anything. Strangers need convincing, touching, connection.”

Jack will tour Europe next April arriving on our shores next May.

Tickets go on sale Friday November 23rd for the following dates:

May
Thurs 23rd  O2 Academy Glasgow, UK
Sat 25th   The Limelight, Belfast, UK
Sun 26th  Olympia Theatre, Dublin, Ireland
Wed 29th  O2 Apollo, Manchester, UK
Friday 31st  The SSE Arena, Wembley, London, UK

Jun
Sat 15th   Westonbirt Arboretum, NR Tetbury, Glos

Two co-writes on the album are amongst the highlights. ‘Touchy Situation’ was co-written with Bob Dylan. Yes you read that right, Bob Dylan! A contact of Jack’s American manager had some old Dylan lyrics and he was fine with Jack writing music to them.

It may have been because he’d heard Jack’s cover of the Dylan rarity ‘Nobody ‘Cept You’ on ‘Written In Scars’ – a song Jack found in Jackson Browne’s studio. The other collaboration was the Kylie Minogue cowrite ‘Music’s Too Sad Without You’ which appears as a live version recorded in Venice on ‘Singing To Strangers’ and is available as an instant grat from November 23rd with album pre-orders.

Jack recently appeared alongside Kylie on the Jonathan Ross show and they also perform the duet on the Michael McIntyre show November 24th.

27 Date World Tour May 2019 Including London Roundhouse Show May 30th

Dido is back with her first new album in five years, the stunning ‘Still On My Mind’ out March 8th on BMG.

The multi-million selling singer has also announced her first tour in 15 (fifteen!) years, where she will play songs from the new album alongside her classic megahits such as Thank You, Here With Me, White Flag and Life For Rent.

The World tour, of 27 dates commences in Europe on May 5th in Prague, with London’s Roundhouse on May 30th which will be followed by a North America tour in June. More info on the tour here.

‘Still On My Mind’ is Dido’s 5th studio album and was written and recorded in England, a result of the fruitful and incredibly natural production/songwriting partnership with her long term collaborator and brother (faithless founder) Rollo.

‘It was simple, I only wanted to make another album if it was with him’ says Dido. ‘It was made in such an easy way, all the vocals recorded on the sofa, a lot of it recorded at home’. It follows the 2013 release of the acclaimed ‘Girl Who Got Away’.

Dido plays the following UK and Irish dates with tickets on sale November 16th:

May 2019
Sun 26th  – Glasgow, Royal Concert Hall

Wed 29th – Manchester, Albert Hall
Thur 30th – London, The Roundhouse

‘Still On My Mind’ encapsulates a variety of styles and genres, ranging from her love of hip hop to her folk roots, but ultimately the entire record carries a dance and electronic music sensibility, even on the tracks with no beats. At the core, it’s about the songs which capture the beautiful essence of Dido personally and emotionally.

The first taste of the album is the glorious ‘Hurricanes’.  From the first few notes of this powerful track, Dido’s voice has never sounded bigger and better, making you realise how much we’ve missed that sound. ‘Hurricanes’ is available to download / stream from today here. It is also available as a free download with the pre-order of the album, available now.

Dido describes the making of this album as “an absolutely magical experience”. She says: “I wanted to capture the feeling I still get from listening to music, just that rush like you don’t need anything more than this”.

With sales of more than 40 million albums worldwide, Dido is one of the best- selling UK artists ever. Both ‘No Angel’ and its 2003 follow-up, ‘Life For Rent’, still rank among the UK’s biggest-selling albums of all-time.

‘I Trawl The Megahertz’ Released February 1st

Originally released as a Paddy McAloon solo album in 2003, the totally original, spellbinding ‘I Trawl The Megahertz’ is now remastered and released February 1st on Sony Music. It is available on CD and vinyl with new artwork and captivating liner notes written by Paddy McAloon.

‘I Trawl The Megahertz’ was conceived and recorded after Paddy was diagnosed with a medical condition that seriously affected his vision. Not surprisingly the album is a testament to the healing power of music.

“In 1996 after recording Andromeda Heights, I started to work on a new batch of songs for an album I wanted to call ‘20th Century Magic’,” Paddy recalls. “After sidelining ‘20th Century Magic’ I started to consider another project. The title song of this new project, ‘Doomed Poets’, was a moody little number and a sort of forerunner to ‘Megahertz in terms of mood.

“One spring morning in ’99 just for the hell of it, I entered a few random notes into the sequencer of my (even then) ancient Atari computer,” Paddy explains. “I recorded a couple of further layers without listening to what had gone before. By pure good luck, when I played them back they formed a few chords that filled me with a strange sort of nostalgia for something I couldn’t name or get close to. At some point a picture started to form. That’s how Megahertz started.”

The album is comprised of nine compositions; the lengthy 22 minute title track, a series of shorter instrumental pieces and a couple of songs originally intended to accompany a short film.

The track ‘I’m 49’ is one of Paddy’s favourites featuring sampled voices. “Musically I like to think of it as Van McCoy on a downer,” Paddy says. Though the record originally appeared as a solo album, it seems fitting to now classify it as a Prefab Sprout project. “I thought we could do anything”, Paddy says of those heady Prefab days. “And Megahertz is true to that spirit. The music here is of a piece with everything I’ve ever written. It’s from the heart.”

Release Construction Time Again The 12″ Singles and Some Great Reward The 12″ Singles On December 14, 2018 Each deluxe limited-edition numbered box set contains six 12″ vinyl discs–mastered from the original tapes–including alternate mixes, 7″ versions, live shows & more

Sony Music Entertainment’s Depeche Mode 12″ vinyl singles project continues with the release of Construction Time Again | The 12″ Singles and Some Great Reward | The 12″ Singles on December 14, 2018.

Each of these definitive box sets contains six 12″ vinyl singles contemporaneous to either Construction Time Again (1983) or Some Great Reward (1984). A pair of pivotal releases in the Depeche Mode canon, these albums significantly advanced the band’s sound and vision, introducing audiences to some of the most inventive mixes in DM history while catapulting their international mass appeal to soaring new heights.

Construction Time Again marked the first time that Depeche Mode released limited edition versions of an album’s 12″ singles, each containing the original mix of each track. With this and Some Great Reward, Depeche Mode’s commitment to the 12″ single format as a distinct art form became even more evident.

Construction Time Again | The 12″ Singles and Some Great Reward | The 12″ Singles contain reproductions of limited edition versions of releases showcasing rare tracks, alternate mixes, 7″ vinyl versions, live shows and more. The Construction Time Again | The 12″ Singles box includes three reproductions of limited singles which each feature four bonus live performances recorded at London’s Hammersmith Odeon on October 25, 1982. The Some Great Reward | The 12″ Singles box includes select live recordings from the Liverpool Empire Theatre, recorded September 29, 1984.

Groundbreaking 12″ single tracks like “Everything Counts” (from Construction Time Again) and “People Are People” (from Some Great Reward) became staples in Depeche Mode’s live shows; the new 12″ singles box sets feature extended versions plus original 7″ mixes of these songs. Some Great Reward | The 12″ Singles includes a new version of the 7″ “Blasphemous Rumours” EP, available on 12″ vinyl for the first time ever.

Depeche Mode embraced the power of 12″ vinyl and the avenues of innovation it opened up. The 12″ single allowed the band to explore new sonic possibilities while the physical beauty of the packaging gave Depeche Mode room to develop a sophisticated and commanding visual aesthetic. Depeche Mode used their singles discography as a means of offering left field remixes and other delights for their fans.

The first two box sets in the series–Speak & Spell | The Singles and A Broken Frame | The Singles–were released by Sony Music Entertainment on August 31, 2018.

Each box set in the series will contain the singles from each Depeche Mode album on audiophile-quality 12″ vinyl, with audio mastered from the original tapes at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. The artwork for the exterior of each of the new box sets draws on street art iconography inspired by the original releases, while the vinyl sleeves themselves feature the original single artwork.

The Depeche Mode 12″ Singles Series will continue over the coming years, with plans to release boxes containing the singles from each of the band’s albums in similar deluxe audiophile-grade collector’s editions.

Depeche Mode recently completed the Global Spirit Tour, a worldwide concert tour that started in May 2017 and finished summer 2018 with a pair of shows at the Waldbühne in Berlin on July 23 and 25. The 15-month Global Spirit Tour saw the band play to more than 3 million fans across Europe, North America and South America.

New Album The Magic Tree Out Now Plays Celtic Connections January 24th

After the release of his evocative new album ‘The Magic Tree’ on September 12th 2018, legendary American songwriter, Steve Forbert adds new dates to his 2019 UK tour including a show as part of the annual international roots music celebration, Celtic Connections, on January 24th. Tickets for Celtic Connections on sale now at www.celticconnections.com.

Produced by Karl Derfler (Tom Waits, Dave Matthews ‘The Magic Tree’ offers a series of songs gleaned from previously recorded acoustic demos, augmented with new backing tracks. The collection rings with the verve and vitality that Forbert’s fans have always come to expect.

Consistently upbeat and optimistic, the album’s songs recorded in Meridian, Nashville, New York, and New Jersey and Virginia convey a firm sense that age ought not diminish a lust for living. Revered critic the late Paul Nelson wrote about Forbert in Rolling Stone almost 40 years ago: “…Nothing, nothing in this world, is going to stop Steve Forbert, and on that I’ll bet anything you’d care to wager.”

Steve Forbert plays the following UK shows:
January
Wed 23rd LIVERPOOL, Philharmonic Music Room
Thurs 24th GLASGOW, ST Andrews in the Square (w/ Caroline Spence)

February
Tues 5th  DERBY, Flowerpot
Thurs 7th GOSFORTH, Civic Hall
Fri 8th   LEEDS, Thorner VH
Sat 9th  ABERDOUR, Woodside Hotel

More than four decades have passed since Steve Forbert made his way to New York City from his Meridian, Mississippi birthplace in quest of a career in music.Lower Manhattan in 1976 with its emerging new wave and punk scene was a most unlikely time and place for an archetypal folk singer armed with just an acoustic guitar an a sheaf of very personal songs to leap into the fray.

After busking on the street for change from passers by, he rose to sharing bills at CBGB’s with the likes of Talking Heads and John Cale as well as headlining more traditional venues such as The Bitter End and Kenny’s Castaways. Against staggering odds, he found blazing success early on with a string of critically acclaimed and commercially accepted albums including Alive on Arrival (1978), Jackrabbit Slim (1979), and Little Stevie Orbit (1980) and a most unlikely smash hit single, “Romeo’s Tune.”

His career had its share of triumphs as well as stumbles and disappointments as did his private life.  Through it all, over the course of a marriage, divorce, raising three children, writing and recording 18 studio albums and fronting an ever changing line-up of supporting musicians, he persevered and stayed true to his roots and the folk ethos.

Now, those life-changing experiences have been chronicled by Forbert in Big City Cat: My Life In Folk Rock, co-written with Therese Boyd. The memoir, originally conceived as a stage play, offers a uniquely introspective view of a life and career during a period of cultural upheaval and the author’s emerging self-awareness.

Sharing reflections and journals he kept at the time, Forbert weaves an absorbing narrative that fully addresses the trials, travails and triumphs that would eventually play out over the course of his prolific 40+ year career. Big City Cat: My Life In Folk Rock features first-person commentary from those who worked with Forbert on the road and in the studio.

“SWORD OF DAMOCLES” STARRING EMMY WINNER DARREN CRISS

Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright has released a new standalone song and video titled, “Sword of Damocles.” Rufus debuted the song last week on The Late Late Show with James Corden to widespread praise.

Of the single, Rufus said “This is my artistic response to what is currently transpiring within the American government and how its collapse is affecting every aspect of existence for us all. With the Midterm Elections around the corner, it’s important for everyone to take a stand and contribute in some way, whether it’s bringing awareness to issues in your community, protesting/demonstrating, watching the news to formulate your own opinions, creating, yelling – it’s all hands on deck. VOTE.”

The video heavily references the famed ancient expression, which is a parable of impending doom of and to those in positions of power. This timeless tale points out the hard fact that with great power, comes great responsibility, and for all concerned, great danger. The project is packed with talent – featuring Emmy winner Darren Criss, wardrobe from Vivienne Westwood, and direction from Andrew Ondrejcak.

Ondrejcak said, “Often my work is concept-driven but for Damocles, I knew that I wanted to focus on a more traditional narrative storytelling. I’ve also been playing with a more formal approach to color – and I wanted to experiment with a Wizard of Oz effect – to begin the story in brownish tones, and then once Dorothy lands in Oz, the creamy sepia tones of Kansas turn into the candy-colored Technicolor of Oz. I think this also speaks to this duality of reality and imagination, of the Real and Unreal.”

A portion of the proceeds from “Sword of Damocles” will benefit the Swing Left Organization.

The song comes off the heels of “Hadrian,” Rufus’ second opera that premiered to much fanfare in Toronto on October 13th. Next up is the “All These Poses” Anniversary Tour 2018 which kicks off in Los Angeles on November 9th, followed by the legendary Rufus and Martha Wainwright Christmas show, “Noel Nights,” which returns to New York City for the first time in four years at Town Hall on December 16th.

Recorded at Nashville’s RCA Studio A with Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb ‘Songs Of The Plains’ is the follow-up to his lauded self-titled debut record, and perfectly captures evocative voice and narrative vision.

The Saskatchewan native will tour the UK and Europe extensively next spring.

With tips from everybody from The Times, Sunday Times Culture, Rolling Stone, The Sun and not to mention music legends like Rick Rubin and Steve Earle, Colter Wall is one not to be missed.
