First Single ‘Desire’ – on Sony Music

Matt Cardle makes a most welcome return to Sony Music on April 27th with the release of new album ‘Time To Be Alive’. Lead single ‘Desire’, an electronic, hook laden delight serves as the perfect introduction to Matt’s new sound.

The striking record sees Cardle collaborate with Jim Eliot (Kylie, Will Young, Ellie Goulding) Christopher Elms (Bjork, Anohni, Alanis Morrisette) Dan McDougall (Liam Gallagher), Dimitri Tikovoi (MNEK, Goldfrapp) and James Hayto & James Jackman (George Michael).

Matt has reinvented his sound on ‘Time To Be Alive’, fusing electronica, gospel, rock and soul. The lyrics are all personal observations on addiction, redemption, atonement and eventual contentment. It’s a collection that will surprise, and one Matt is incredibly proud of.

All but one of the album’s 14 songs were co-written by Cardle. They reveal a portrait of an artist struggling with personal battles, but ultimately winning the war. Producer Jim Eliot was chosen by Matt to help him translate these intimate songs into an electronic, soulful album, which was primarily recorded at Jim’s Hay-on-Wye studio, and at Sarm Studios in London. ‘Time To Be Alive’ was mixed in Stockholm by Christopher Elms, best known for his work with Bjork.

Early into the writing process, Matt spent six months in the lead role of West End hit musical ‘Memphis’. He received the Best West End Debut award from ‘What’s On Stage’ for his portrayal of Huey Calhoun.
As the resounding winner of The X Factor’s highest rating series ever in 2010, over 19 million viewers tuned in to see Matt triumph with his breathtaking four- octave vocal range.

Matt grew up on a steady diet of heavy metal (Rage Against the Machine, Korn) but also admits to a love of Katy Perry, Lady GaGa and the late Michael Jackson. His platinum-selling debut ‘Letters’ was released in 2011, followed by ‘The Fire’ (2012). Both albums went top ten while ‘Porcelain’ debuted at 11 driven by the Melanie C duet ‘Loving You’.

Now back on Sony, ‘Time To Be Alive’, Matt’s 4th studio album, is his first LP release since ‘Porcelain’ in 2013 and showcases Matt’s new found maturity as a singer, songwriter and musician.

Tokio Myers has teamed up with medal winning athlete Jazmin Sawyers for an incredible reworking of the classic ‘Jerusalem’ for the Official England Commonwealth Games Anthem. The single is released with npower on Syco Music March 16th.

Recorded last month at Abbey Road Studios with a 54 piece orchestra, 10 person choir, Jazmin on vocals and Tokio on a multitude of keyboards, ‘Jerusalem’ is an inspiring choice for Team England. Max Whitlock, Jack Laugher, Ellie Robinson and Lois Toulson all attended the recording session. The Commonwealth Games kick off April 4th in Australia.

Tokio Myers won Britain’s Got Talent last summer and since then released his acclaimed debut album ‘My Generation’ which entered the UK chart at number 4 and has sold over 100,000 so far. Tokio embarks on an 18 date UK tour next month including 3 shows at 3 different London venues.

Jazmin Sawyers, a 23 year old long jump specialist from Stoke, won a silver medal at the 2014 Glasgow Games. Last year she sang on ITV’s the Voice and made it through the Blind Auditions on team Will.i.am.

‘I feel honoured and privileged to be able to put my own spin on this iconic track” Tokio Myers said.

‘It’s always an honour representing Team England in the Games,” says Jazmin. ‘It’s even more special to be singing vocals on Jerusalem, especially because I was able to record it in front of my teammates. It’s definitely going to push me harder in training and on the track.”

Max Whitlock MBE, Team England Gymnast and winner of 2 Olympic Gold Medals and 3 Olympic Bronze Medals says: “It’s brilliant to have this updated version of the track and to have experience the recording day. I can safely say, I now know the words to Jerusalem!”

One of the country’s most exciting new artists, Louis Berry, releases his most personal single yet with the gospel tinged ‘Stumbling’ (impacts April 6th) on Ministry of Sound.

LISTEN TO ‘STUMBLING’ HERE

This evocative song allows Louis to effortlessly showcase his tremendous voice, wrapped around emotionally charged lyrics. ‘Stumbling’ is written and produced by Louis, Marcus Foster from the band Seramic and Koz, the Grammy winning Canadian producer best known for his work with Kendrick Lamar on the album ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ and DUA LIPA on her acclaimed debut.

“I’ve spent much of the last year in the studio working on new tracks, forming a new sound,” Louis says. “I’ve been working with Rudimental, Mojam and Koz, a Canadian producer who really got my sound. I grew up listening to 2pac but I’m also a fan of people like Johnny Cash so to merge those two sounds together which is what Koz helped me do, is just very exciting.”

Without doubt ‘Stumbling’ is his best single yet, and promises great things for his debut album, produced by an all star cast: Koz, Jacquire King (James Bay, Niall Horan, Kings of Leon) and Steve Fitzmaurice (Sam Smith) and is set for release this summer.

“Louis’ voice instantly stood out,” says Koz. “It has that timeless, distinct, iconic quality that is so rare to find. Every word he sings you believe.”

“It’s a song about when you’re going through things in life and you keep getting knock backs,” Louis says of ‘Stumbling’. “It’s about having the determination and courage to carry on through hard times and get to a place where you want to be.”

Anyone who has witnessed Louis Berry live knows his performances are as joyful as they are explosive, breathing an infectious intensity into his passionate songs. On the horizon are residencies in his native Liverpool and London, Live at Leeds and the Neighbourhood Festival and support slots with Liam Gallagher in Dublin and Belfast.

Louis and his fabulous band spent much of last year on the road, honing their exciting live sound. His UK headline tour sold out while he played over 18 European festivals last summer. He’s had over 270 plays on Radio 1. His supporters include Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Mistajam and Huw Stephens. So far his songs have been streamed over 10 million times.

Louis’ forthcoming album will be followed by a headline UK tour later this year.

HANNIE, the songwriting duo of multi-instrumentalists Hannah Koppenburg and Annie Wagstaff release their debut single ‘Cosmic Bound’ today.

Listen to ‘Cosmic Bound’ HERE

‘Cosmic Bound’, featuring newcomer Carys Selvey on vocals, is a little gem pairing funk driven guitars and keys with pure pop melodies and showcases the girls’ ability to write a mean tune. Much like recent acts Disclosure and Clean Bandit, HANNIE write and co-produce their own tracks, handpicking different vocalists to collaborate with for each track.

Forming HANNIE in 2017, Hannah and Annie initially met at ACM University in Guildford, the only girls swimming in a male dominated sea of aspiring guitarists and keyboard players. Hannah, originally from South Germany plays keys and Annie, born in Surrey, guitar and it didn’t take them long to connect musically – going on to play in various bands before eventually forming HANNIE last year.

‘We’ve been doing these online videos for a while and it’s really exciting for us to have our own track out’ says Annie ‘It’s been a totally different experience from playing for other people and we love it!’ Following a stint of session work with other acts the pair moved to East London, turned their living room into a studio and have been writing prolifically ever since.

Within a year HANNIE have gone from putting up online videos filmed in their living room, to having over 160,000 followers, keenly awaiting their next move.

Their view is simple:

“Your gender should never get in the way of doing what you love and working hard. It’s weird but there doesn’t seem to be anyone doing what we are doing, which we find really exciting. We want to be a step towards putting more girls, as musicians, in the music industry. This is the most fun we’ve ever had, and can’t wait to share these tunes with everyone.”

PLAYS THE WAITING ROOM APRIL 12th

Mr. Jukebox, the highly anticipated debut album from Joshua Hedley, will be released April 20 on Third Man Records and is now available for pre-order. Watch the video for the title track today HERE.

Produced by Jordan Lehning and Skylar Wilson, the 10-track album features nine original songs as well as a version of “When You Wish Upon A Star.” In addition to Hedley on vocals and fiddle, the album features Eddie Lange on steel guitar/guitar, Jeremy Fetzer from Steelism on guitar/baritone guitar, Michael Rinne on bass, Jon Radford on drums/percussion and Micah Hulscher on piano/organ.

Hedley comments, “It’s not a throwback. It sounds new because it is new, and it sounds the way it sounds because it’s the only thing I know how to do. I can’t write a song that sounds different. Classic country is like a suit. Nothing about a men’s suit has changed in like 100 years. Classic never goes out of style.”

A Florida native, Hedley felt inexplicably drawn toward the fiddle as a child. He first asked for one at age 3. His mom listened to Neil Diamond and his dad listened to Otis Redding––they didn’t see the request coming––but when he asked again five years later, they were struck by the longing’s staying power and, at 8 years-old, he finally got his wish.

He went on to perform at the local VFW and American Legion and, at 12, joined his first band. His bandmates were in their 40s. Around the same time, Hedley visited Nashville with his parents and immediately knew that he belonged. At 19, he made the move and began sneaking into Robert’s Western World––too young to drink legally and too wild to care.

Joshua Hedley went on to become a featured performer and in-demand sideman at the now legendary spot and, ultimately, a well-respected frontman. Armed with an easy croon and prodigious fiddle playing, he became known by peers as the Mayor of Lower Broad. In the years since, he’s performed with artists including Jonny Fritz, Justin Townes Earle and was featured prominently in the 2015 documentary, Heartworn Highways Revisited.

Hedley will tour throughout 2018 in support of the record, including stops at SXSW and a date at London’s The Waiting Room on April 12th.

MR. JUKEBOX TRACK LIST

Album ‘Sir’ Out February 16th

Watch The Video HERE

Fischerspooner share their new single “TopBrazil” off their upcoming album, Sir, out February 16 via Ultra Records.  The stunning companion video was directed by Tom C J Brown and features frontman Casey Spooner interwoven into a collage of male bodies becoming one, all the while blurring the lines of masculinity and femininity paired with overt sexuality. Spooner explains, “The video celebrates a pop aesthetic typically reserved for the female archetype and liberates the male form to be sexual, expressive and fearless.” It embodies the album’s resistant narrative as an overtly queer and celebratory body of work in response to the current atmosphere in America.

Sir is the group’s first album in nearly a decade. Entirely produced by Michael Stipe, it features additional production by BOOTS (Beyonce, Run The Jewels, FKA Twigs) and mixing by both Stuart White (Beyonce’s Lemonade) and Andy LeMaster. The collection of erotically-charged, yet profound songs was crafted by Spooner and Stipe at Michael’s home in Athens, GA, alongside Michael’s longtime collaborator Andy LeMaster. The album also features contributions by Spooner’s longtime collaborator Le Chev, as well as Thomas Haskett.

Fischerspooner started as a DIY art project with their very first performance at a Manhattan Starbucks, which ultimately transformed into a spectacle that ushered in the electroclash pop revolution. They pushed the boundaries of music and art in unparalleled ways that laid the foundations for many of today’s biggest artists. Long known for their spectacular live performances, they returned to the stage and played their first show in almost a decade in October at Brooklyn Steel, with West Coast shows lined up for March this year.
